The Trenchcoat
Der Trenchcoat ist eines der bekanntesten Kleidungsstücke der Welt und vor allem im deutschen Sommer darf er nicht fehlen.
Aber woher kommt der Trenchcoat?
Erfunden wurde er von Thomas Burberry Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Mit der Erfindung des Stoffes Gabardine begann die Geschichte des beliebten Mantels. Für die britische und französische Armee wurde der Mantel im ersten Weltkrieg designed. Die D-Ringe waren ideal um Granaten dort zu befestigen und die Schulterriemen dienten zum Schutz vor Gewehrläufen.
Nach dem Krieg gefiel der Mantel den Soldaten so gut, dass sie ihn in ihre Alltagskleidung übernahmen und so beliebt machten.
Humphrey Bogart trug den Mantel in seinem Film "Casablanca" und Audrey Hepburn trug den Mantel als Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's". Dadurch wurde der Mantel salonfähig.
Heute gibt es den Mantel in allen Farben und Stoffen. Der klassische Trenchcoat ist jedoch kamelfarbend und sieht heute noch genauso aus wie vor 100 Jahren.

The trench coat is one of the most famous fashion pieces existing and especially during the German summer indispensable.
But where does it come from?
Thomas Burberry invented the trench coat during the late 19th century. It all started with the invention of the gabardine. He designed the coat for the british and french army during the World War I. The D-rings were perfect to attach grenades at it and the shoulder straps protected the soldiers from their barrels.
After the war the soldiers liked the coat so much, that they integrated it in their daily robe.
Humphrey Bogart wore the coat in his movie "Casablanca", while Audrey Hepburn wore it in "Breakfast at Tiffany's". So the coat became socially accepted.
Today the coat is available in every color and every textile. But the classic trench coat has a camel tone and looks just like it did 100 years ago.
